YouTube earnings calculator: what a channel makes from ads
Enter a channel's monthly views, where most of its viewers are and what it covers, and see a range for its YouTube ad income in AED, SAR or USD. Every rate is shown, and a real RPM from YouTube Studio can replace them.
Free, no sign-up, and it runs in your browser
Ad revenue only, after YouTube’s share. Sponsorships, memberships and brand deals usually pay a creator far more than ads, and are not in this figure.
YouTube pays for ads only inside its Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. Creators keep 55% of the ad revenue on their videos and 45% of their share of the Shorts pool; the figures here are already after that.
A range, not a promise: YouTube publishes no rates by country or subject, so these are working rules of thumb, listed in full below. Your own RPM in YouTube Studio is the real number; type it in to replace the estimate.
What it does
A channel's ad income is its views multiplied by its RPM: what it earns for every 1,000 views once YouTube has taken its share and the views that showed no ad are counted in. RPM depends mostly on where the viewers are and what the videos cover, because that is what advertisers pay to reach. For long-form videos on a lifestyle channel, the calculator works from about USD 1.50 to 4 per 1,000 views for a mostly UAE audience, USD 1 to 3 for Saudi Arabia or the rest of the GCC, and USD 3 to 8 for the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
That range is then multiplied for the subject: finance, business and property at 1.8, tech and software at 1.4, education at 1.2, down to gaming at 0.6 and made-for-kids content at 0.4. Shorts are paid differently, from a shared pool, at roughly USD 0.02 to 0.07 per 1,000 views wherever the viewers are. These are working rules of thumb rather than YouTube data, because YouTube publishes no rates by country or subject. If you know a channel's real RPM from YouTube Studio, type it in and the estimate uses it instead.
How to use it
- Enter the channel's long-form views a month, and its Shorts views if it posts them.
- Choose where most of the viewers are and what the channel is about.
- If you have the channel's RPM from YouTube Studio, add it to replace the working range.
- Pick AED, SAR or USD and read the monthly range.
Questions, answered
How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?
Location and subject matter drive it, since those are what advertisers pay for. Working ranges after YouTube's cut: roughly USD 1.50 to 4 per 1,000 video views for a mainly UAE audience, USD 1 to 3 for Saudi Arabia, and USD 3 to 8 for viewers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Finance and tech sit above those ranges, while gaming and children's content sit below. Any channel's actual figure appears in YouTube Studio under RPM.
What is the difference between RPM and CPM?
CPM is the advertiser's price for 1,000 ad impressions, measured before YouTube keeps its share. RPM is the creator's income for 1,000 views of their videos, measured after that share and including views where no ad ran. The second is always smaller, and it is the one to use when you want to know what a channel takes home.
How much do YouTube Shorts pay?
Very little by comparison. Ad money from Shorts goes into a pool that is divided by views, and the creator keeps 45% of their slice. At about USD 0.02 to 0.07 per 1,000 Shorts views, a million Shorts views in a month brings in tens of dollars rather than thousands.
When does a channel start earning from ads?
Ad income begins only after a channel joins the YouTube Partner Program. Entry needs 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours over the past 12 months or 10 million Shorts views over the past 90 days, and the channel is then reviewed. Before that point, views pay nothing from ads.
What does the estimate leave out?
Three things. Seasonality: rates rise ahead of Ramadan and across the final quarter, then fall in January, so any one month can come in at half or twice the average. Income outside ads: sponsorships, channel memberships, Super Thanks and brand deals, often the larger share of what a creator earns. And the quirks of each channel, from video length and the number of ads allowed to how many viewers run ad blockers, all of which shift RPM.
Can it tell me what to pay a YouTuber for a sponsored video?
Not directly. Ad earnings are a floor for what a creator will expect from a sponsored video, not a price. For a fee range per video, use the influencer rate calculator.
