Influencer campaign ROI and EMV calculator
Set a creator campaign's cost against what it delivered: earned media value, cost per engagement, effective CPM and, when sales can be tracked, return on ad spend. Each figure is a simple division you can check.
Free, no sign-up, and it runs in your browser
Add the revenue the campaign brought in (a discount code or tracked link is the usual source) to see return on ad spend.
Every figure is one number divided by another, with the formulas below. EMV is only as good as the value per 1,000 impressions you set: use the rate your clients agree to, and say which one you used when you report it.
What it does
When a campaign ends, someone has to say whether it was worth the money. This calculator takes the totals from the creators' insights (impressions, reach, likes, comments, shares and saves), plus clicks and sales if you tracked them, and turns them into the figures a report needs: earned media value, engagements, cost per engagement, cost per 1,000 impressions, engagement rate, frequency, cost per click, cost per sale, return on ad spend and profit on spend.
Nothing is graded against a benchmark it cannot show you. Every result is one of your numbers divided by another, and earned media value is simply impressions divided by 1,000, multiplied by what 1,000 impressions would have cost as advertising. That value starts at AED 30 (SAR 30, or USD 8) and can be changed. Whatever you use, say so in the report and keep it the same from month to month, so the trend means something.
How to use it
- Choose AED, SAR or USD and enter the full cost: product, production and agency time as well as creator fees.
- Add up impressions, reach and each kind of engagement from the creators' insights screenshots.
- Add clicks from link tracking, and sales or revenue from a discount code or tracked link, if you have them.
- Check the value per 1,000 impressions used for EMV, then lead the report with the figure that matches the campaign's goal.
Questions, answered
What is earned media value?
It translates attention into money by asking what the same impressions would have cost as advertising: divide impressions by 1,000 and multiply by the price of 1,000 paid impressions. The result is a yardstick against paid media, not revenue, and it is only as sound as the rate you feed in, so always name that rate alongside the figure.
What value per 1,000 impressions should I use?
Agree it before the campaign starts with whoever is running it. In the Gulf, many agencies set it near what brands pay for social ads, and AED 30 is a frequent starting figure. That is where the calculator begins (or the same number in riyals, or its dollar equivalent), and you can overwrite it.
Is EMV the same as ROI?
They measure different things. EMV puts a price on attention, while return on ad spend and profit are about what was sold. Strong EMV with no sales is possible, and so is a modest EMV on a campaign whose discount code more than paid for it. When sales are trackable, those numbers come first.
Where do the numbers come from?
Ask each creator for the insights screenshots of every post (impressions, reach, likes, comments, shares and saves) and total them across the campaign. Link tracking gives you clicks; a discount code or tracked link gives you sales. Follower counts do not substitute for any of these.
What is a good cost per engagement?
There is no single number, because it shifts with the platform, the niche and the goal, and that is why the calculator leaves it ungraded. The useful comparisons are your own previous campaigns and what the same money would buy in paid social.
Which figure should lead the report?
Whichever matches the reason the campaign ran. Report an awareness push on reach, frequency and cost per 1,000 impressions, and a sales push on cost per sale and return on ad spend. EMV can back up either, but it should never be the lead figure for a campaign whose job was to sell.
