Snap Specs AR glasses: what they mean for Gulf brands

Snap's first consumer AR glasses went on order in September 2026, but only in the US, the UK and France. For brands in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the opportunity today is Lenses on the phone.

After a decade of work on augmented reality glasses, Snap has put a pair on sale to the public. In January 2026 it moved the project into a subsidiary, Specs Inc., and on 16 September it opened orders for Specs. The price is 2,195 dollars, or 2,395 dollars with a connected charging case, and deliveries to the US, the UK and France are due later this autumn. Nobody in the UAE or Saudi Arabia can order them.

So Specs are something to watch, not something to plan media around. What a Gulf brand can use this quarter is AR on the phone.

The glasses in brief

  • Transparent glasses that place digital objects into the space around the wearer, running on Snap OS.
  • An AI assistant, which Snap calls SPECS Intelligence, and translation across 60 languages.
  • A 51 degree field of view and roughly four hours of battery, or about 20 with the case, according to trade reports from Snap's developer event in June.
  • Optional data plans, with Salesforce, AWS and NVIDIA among the business partners.

Snap's chief executive, Evan Spiegel, told investors in August that mass adoption might not arrive until the end of the decade. Treat Specs as a pointer to Snap's direction, not a channel for this year.

The developer tools, and the one to follow

At the Augmented World Expo in June, Snap gave Specs developers an agentic version of Lens Studio that works with AI coding assistants, an agent for migrating Unity projects, and Commerce Kit, which handles purchases inside a Lens. Snap says it has released ten Snap OS updates in 18 months. Commerce Kit matters most to brands: it points towards buying products from inside an AR experience.

Lenses: the AR audience that exists now

On the phone, Lenses already give Snapchat one of the largest AR audiences anywhere. From Snap's 2026 investor letters:

  • Over 75 percent of Snapchatters use AR every day.
  • Lenses are used 9 billion times a day.
  • More than 400,000 Lenses were submitted in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of more than 150 percent, helped by Easy Lens, which creates a Lens from a text prompt.
  • In the final quarter of 2025, 700 million Snapchatters used generative AI Lenses 17 billion times.

Sponsored AI Lenses in the Gulf

Sponsored AI Lenses let a brand place a generative AI effect in the Lens carousel. They launched in April 2025, and Snap says they have delivered nearly 38 billion impressions since the last quarter of 2025. In February 2026 Gucci became the first luxury house to run one, in France, the UK, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Sponsored Lenses and AI Lenses are both open to Gulf brands today, and Saudi Arabia has a long history of AR campaigns, from Snap's Ramadan Mall to Almarai's AR neighbourhood during Ramadan 2026.

A growing pool of local Lens creators

Lens+, Snap's subscription for exclusive Lenses, launched in 2025 at 8.99 dollars a month. It pays Lens creators through Lens+ Payouts, which are open to creators in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. In March 2026 Snap added AI Clips, which turn a photo into a five-second video, as a Lens+ exclusive. For brands, that means more reason for the region's Lens creators to build, and more talent to commission.

Where to put your attention

  • Set aside budget for Sponsored Lenses and AI Lenses on the phone now. They already reach Gulf audiences at scale.
  • Commission AR creators who build for Snapchat today, rather than designing for glasses.
  • Follow Commerce Kit. If people can buy inside a Lens, AR becomes a sales channel as well as an awareness one.
  • Look at Specs again once Snap announces availability in the Gulf.
  • Preview AR launch ads full screen against Snap's safe zone before they run.
