What it does

Each platform recommends sizes for upload. Go bigger and the picture gets shrunk; go smaller and it looks soft. The resizer holds the list for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Pinterest and WhatsApp, checked against each platform in September 2026, and crops your picture for all of them from one focus point, so a 16:9 thumbnail keeps the same subject as a 4:5 post.

For stories, reels and TikToks it shades the bands at the top and bottom where the account name, caption and buttons will cover the image, so you can keep text clear; the shading is not in the download. Fill crops to the shape around the point you choose, while Fit keeps the whole picture and fills the gaps with a blurred copy of it or a colour. Your picture is read, cropped and saved on your own device and is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop in a picture and click the point that must stay in frame.
  2. Choose the platforms and formats you need.
  3. Pick Fill for photos or Fit for artwork and designs with text near the edges, and check the safe zones.
  4. Download JPG for photos, or PNG for graphics, logos and transparent backgrounds.

Questions, answered

What is the best Instagram post size in 2026?

For the feed, 1080 by 1350 pixels (4:5) takes the most room. The profile grid has cropped posts to 3:4 since 2025, so 1080 by 1440 is the size that fills both without losing anything. Stories and reels use 1080 by 1920 (9:16).

What is a safe zone?

On stories, reels and TikToks, the strips at the top and bottom of the screen are where the app puts the account name, caption and buttons. Anything important placed there gets hidden. The previews shade those strips so you can design around them, and the shading does not appear in the file you download.

Should I use Fill or Fit?

Fill trims the image to the new shape around the point you clicked, which is right for most photos. Fit shows the entire image and fills the leftover space with a blurred version of it or a plain colour, which is better for artwork, flyers and designs with text near the edge.

JPG or PNG?

Photos are best as JPG: the files are far smaller and every platform accepts them. Graphics with text, logos or flat areas of colour are better as PNG, because JPG can soften their edges, and PNG is also the choice for a transparent background.

Why did my logo or headline get cut off?

Usually one of three things. Profile photos are shown as circles, so a logo near the corners loses them. Instagram's grid shows posts at 3:4, which is narrower than 4:5, so a 4:5 post loses a sliver at each side there. And on stories, reels and TikToks, anything in the top or bottom band sits under the app's own name, caption and buttons.

How current are the sizes?

They were checked against each platform in September 2026. Platforms change their recommendations now and then, so if a size looks wrong, check the platform's own guidance.
